Livett's Chosen Charity
Chris Livett has a reputation for excellence on the Thames. This is in no small way as a result of his charitable work and his determined efforts to promote the positive use of the river at every opportunity. Chris provides support to a range of trusts and charities on an ongoing basis. For 2011 Chris has chosen to help the Sea-Change Sailing Trust commencing his support by donating £1,500 for a group of children from The London Nautical School to experience a Thames Sailing Barge in action.
Based at Maldon in Essex, Sea-Change is entering its fifth season working afloat with young people and vulnerable adults. The trust use the vehicle of living and working together aboard a traditional Thames Sailing Barge to develop confidence, self-esteem, teamwork and seamanship skills. This sort of activity-based learning in a structured, safe yet challenging environment can literally change peoples’ lives. The trust is both an RYA Training Centre and Sailability Foundation Organisation.
The charity depends on donations and grants for the majority of its work and operates a bursary scheme so that lack of finance need not prevent participation. A donation of £50 will pay for a young person to sail with us for a day. £3000 will pay for a group of twelve for a week.
Richard Titchener, Skipper and Executive Officer said: "We are very proud to have been selected by Livett's Launches to be their Charity of the Year for 2011. Not only will this help us work with more young people now but also give a real boost to our appeal for a vessel for the charity."
Sea-Change intends to build a new barge, a replica of the last barge built, the steel Blue Mermaid of 1930 lost in WW2. She will do our current work for groups with their staff and will also be a schoolship giving genuine practical vocational training aboard a low-carbon cargo-carrying sailing vessel.
"I am asking my customers to donate by adding a small amount to their invoices for the charity. Donations will help the Trust with their fund raising to build their own Thames Sailing Barge." commented Chris

Past Chosen Charities
In 2009 Chris publically linked Livett’s Launches with The Ellen MacArthur Trust, helping children recovering from serious illnesses through sailing.
"I have worked with Ellen for a number of years and had a heavy involvement in the organisation of the London leg of the Trust’s 2009 Round Britain Voyage. I decided to raise awareness and support the trust through 2009,” commented Chris.

In 2010 Chris chose to help a more local organisation with a similar maritime theme that is also helping children, The London Nautical School.
“In September 1999, we became a Foundation School within the London Borough of Lambeth. The school is situated in Stamford Street on the south bank of the River Thames, in between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge. We are delighted that Mr. Livett has pledged his support for 2010," commented Mr. Dastagir, Headmaster.
