Chris Livett supported the Dragon Boat Regatta at the Docklands Watersports Centre last week. Chris was the only river boat operator to enter a team for the event, part of Port of London Authority's Centenary celebrations. There were eighteen colourfully dressed teams of River Thames related occupation in total. The competition was friendly, but intense with the strong winds making for some very interesting racing.
The regatta was run over the afternoon with a series of short sprint races culminating in a grand final. Each team of ten ‘paddlers‘ was accompanied by a drummer for motivation and timing!
The overall winners were the Waterman’s Company whho were dominant throughout the event.
Chris's team, the “Thames Luxury Geishas”, were a little less experienced than the winners as only one of the 6 men and 5 women (10 rowers and 1 drummer) had ever been in a dragon boat before!
“It was a great afternoon which everyone enjoyed immensely,” commented Chris Livett M.D. of Livett’s Launches and Thames Luxury Charters. “The PLA’s hard work organizing the event really paid off and although my team only came eighth in the races we did win the award for the best fancy dress!”
The Docklands Watersports Centre hosted the event providing a Cox for each of the dragon boats for coaching, motivation and safety!
