Livett's Launches

26.03.09 - Orchestral Manoeuvres on the Thames

Tourists, commuters and boat masters alike were entertained yesterday with a live performance of Handel’s Water Music from the top deck of the motor vessel Edwardian. The BBC employed the services of Livett’s Launches to arrange for a Youth Orchestra to perform aboard the Edwardian whilst retracing the ‘wash’ of King George 1st.

The boat drew a lot of attention as it cruised up the River Thames from Tower Bridge to Chelsea and back. The accompanying camera boat ‘Eddie C’ captured the scene whilst a second camera crew onboard the Edwardian got the close ups of the action.

“Despite decades working on all manner of filming productions and stunt sequences you never know what is coming next," commented Chris Livett, Managing Director of Livett’s Launches. “Marine filming is an exciting and rewarding element of our services.”

Livett’s Launches work with the BBC on a regular basis providing boats and coordination for all manner of filming scenes and more extreme stunt sequences. This particular voyage is scheduled for ‘The One Show’ however this is not the first time the Edwardian has been used as an action boat on the Thames in London. Andy and Lou from the hit comedy show Little Britain acted out one of their hilarious sketches and just last month she transported a 16ft Lego Pharaoh up the River Thames and under Tower Bridge!

For 2009 Livett’s Launches are supporting The Ellen MacArthur Trust, helping children with cancer, leukaemia and other serious illnesses through sailing. Please see www.livettslaunches.co.uk for more information.
