Support & Safety Boat Services to Blackfriars Rail Bridge - Thameslink Programme Works

Livett's Launches has been providing a Captained boat at Blackfriars Bridge for the past month to facilitate skilled engineers and workmen in gaining access to the underside of the bridge arches via ropes. The Livett's boat has been used to allow the engineers to rig up ropes under the bridge and then hoist themselves under the arches to fit a network of sensors. The boat was then used as safety cover while the men worked under the arch prior to returning to retrieve them before moving to the next section.

Working in such a  changeable environment as the Thames adds an element of risk which has been extremely carefully managed, with wash from other craft not to mention the 7m tide.
This risk management has been formly recognised by the Thames Link Programme team, please see email below:

James/Matthew,

It seems we hit the TLP KPI for Health and Safety (not sure which KPI it refers to). Congratulations from TLP below.

Without risking a Murray Walker gaffe, installing the large number of sensors and cables on the railway, over the River Thames and major/minor roads in London with nothing more than a grazed hand to report is extremely commendable. Thank you for the swift and very safe manner in which you have worked in such an adverse environment. Please pass on our compliments to CAN and Livetts.

Kind regards,

Stuart Davies
