17.08.06 - Elizabethan crew directed a lifeboat to save a mans life

Last night the Elizabethan crew directed a lifeboat to save a mans life

Last night the Crew of the Elizabethan noticed a man jump from London Bridge into the Thames. He was swept by the tide towards some mooring barges where he was very lucky not to be crushed between the barges. The lifeboat was called and directed to pull him from the mooring chain he was clinging to. See the email below from the RNLI.

Hello

My name is Carl Schofield, I am a mechanic on Tower Lifeboat. Last night (16/08/06) at around 21:35 a man jumped into the river from London Bridge. The tide washed him down onto the mooring barge between the Dutch Master and William B. The man, who was 24, was begging to be rescued as he was in danger of being swept under the barge by the tide. The position he was in would have made him very difficult to find and we only found him so quickly because the crew of the Elizabethan directed us to him. Could you please pass on our regards to the Skipper and his crew as it's no exaggeration to say that their actions probably saved the young man's life.

Thanks once again
Carl Schofield
